Dear Friends,
As you all know, the Haiti Earthquake struck on Jan. 12th, 2010, with an estimated magnitude of 7.0. The latest death toll is thought to be around 70,000 people, and may go up to 200,000. Already one of the most impoverished countries in the world, the earthquake caused horrible devastation on Haiti and has left thousands of Haitians without their families. More than anything, the people of Haiti need money now to buy basic necessities such as water, food, medical supplies, and clothes. We can only hope that the country will recover soon and restore all the damage that was done.
This Sunday, January 24th, from 1-2:30 pm, at the Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church, 410 Sycamore Ave in Mill Valley, CA, I will be holding a Benefit Concert for the Haiti Earthquake Victims. There will be no ticket charge, but I ask that you donate all the money you can. 100% of the donations will be sent to Haiti through the American Red Cross Society.
For those of you who don’t know, I am a 15-year old concert pianist and have been performing publicly since the age of four. I have won international piano competitions and made my debut at Carnegie Hall in New York last May. I will be joined by Jonah Hopton, an 18-year old opera tenor who is currently studying with a teacher from Juilliard. He has also participated in the Classical Singer National Competition.
This concert is an opportunity to hear great live music ranging from Chopin and Ravel to Handel and Bach. Both Jonah and I are passionate and extremely dedicated to our music and hope to make a difference in the world through it. Music is our power in the world. During just one hour, each of you can also make a difference in the earthquake victims’ lives (and enjoy some awesome music!). Please invite all your friends, family, acquaintances, etc. This is a concert that truly anybody can enjoy!
Sincerely, Rieko Tsuchida
